Old property nice lobby , old rooms with issues as contact that did not work properly, tv streaming did not work. Overpriced meals and horrible service. Would not recommend staying here, especially if you want a beach resort experience. Restaurant service extremely slow and poor, mot what you expect in this price range!

Amazing Stay at Banyan Tree!

We had the best stay at the Banyan Tree Mayakoba. Service was five star and truly incredible. Food was delicious - we didn't have a bad meal. Couldn't recommend staying here more and really look forward to returning! Thank you to the entire Banyan Tree staff for making us feel so welcome and pampered!

Fab!

The hotel and service were fabulous beginning to end. Rooms are spacious, clean and pleasant. The service was amazing all the way around; staff is basically trained to always say "yes" and make anything possible (within reason) for your visit or meal. Food was consistently excellent in flavor and preparation with a wide variety of selections available. We ate at most all of the restaurants there and were hard pressed to pick a favorite since all were good. Activities for kids of all ages were abundant - golf, tennis, jet skis, sea bobs, kayaks, archery, gym, spa - you name it. While I agree with other comments about some of the costs being on the high side, it's worth it since the quality of the experience is top notch. Would recommend staying in one of the rooms by the beach. Even though more expensive, that's where the action is; otherwise it's a short golf buggy ride (or bike) from main lobby area to get there.

Wonderful Stay!

The hotel and staff were absolutely amazing. Our room was on the beach (highly recommend that location) and had our two children with us. Anyone with young kids knows that traveling with them can at times be stressful but staying at Banyan Tree made it extremely relaxing. I can’t express enough how wonderful everyone there was…. We appreciated their kindness and help through our entire stay so much. Thank you! Regina, Rene, Jesus, Nara, and everyone else…. Thank you.

Amazing Spring Break 2024

Carly D TripAdvisor review

We just got back from our week-long stay at Banyan Tree for Spring Break. We traveled with our 3 kids (9,6,4). We absolutely loved the hotel and would stay there again in a heartbeat. Our boys had the best time and can't wait to get back already. As with any hotel, there were pros and cons to this one as well. We love how secluded Mayakoba feels, the setting is insanely gorgeous and Banyan Tree itself is one of the most beautiful properties we have ever stayed at. When we checked in we were greeted immediately and everyone in the lobby was friendly and welcoming. Our room wasn't ready so they suggested we have a bite to eat, or use their changing rooms and head to the pool. The property is huge, so it would have been nice to maybe get a tour of the property. It was a little hectic trying to figure it out with 3 kiddos. Once our room was ready, we were taken by golf cart which was super fun for the kids. When we arrived at the room, there were bikes for each of us, even training wheels on the bike for our 4 year old! Our concierge gave us a rundown of the room and showed us around, and we were shocked at how huge the room was. We had a three bedroom golf view, and the kids were so excited to have a large pool rather than a typical plunge pool. The room was stunning, however we felt that for the price we paid, it was a little dated and rundown. There were cabinets that were hanging off of the hinges in pretty much every room/bathroom, a large dehumidifier in the downstairs hallway that was loud and smelled pretty gross. One of the sinks in the primary bathroom either wasn't installed properly or was broken because it was clearly installed at an angle and the water wouldn't drain fast. Also, the shower door wouldn't open very far and when it did it would scratch against the floor. The bathtub while clean looked rusty in some areas so it turned us off from using it. We probably would have complained about the room, but it was very clean which is more important than anything IMO, and the kids were happy so we didn't want to cause problems. The kitchen didn't have any towels, and there were no tissues in any of the rooms. We happened to receive a survey after our first night and I wrote about those 2 things in the survey. Within an hour we were fully stalked with multiple tissue boxes and kitchen towels. Our room was always provided with enough towels and the bathroom restocked with supplies. Talk about excellent service! Speaking of service, the service at this property is top notch. Every staff member goes above and beyond to say hello and smile. Everyone on the property was extremely friendly. The pool staff and beach staff were amazing, however the service there (and everywhere) was very very slow. We don't like being rushed of course, but sometimes dinner would take well over 2 hours which is rough with small kids. I will say, we noticed the service started becoming even slower when a giant party had arrived for a wedding. Once all of those guests started showing up (around the halfway mark of the trip) service was significantly slower in all areas of the resort. The food and drinks were delish - but the drinks were definitely weak! The breakfast buffet was one of the best we've ever experienced. Also, the kids menus were really good. Not just typical chicken nuggets and burgers which we appreciated. The pools were perfect temperatures, and the beach was fabulous. They came around with free snacks and popsicles daily which was so fun. The only negatives I have is that some of the pool lights were loose and the kids would play with them or accidentally step on them. Also, we noticed halfway through the trip when the wedding guests arrived that people were going to claim pool/ beach chairs relatively early and wouldn't show up for 3-4 hours later. There were two days we showed up after breakfast and couldn't get spots. Some resorts we have stayed at doesn't allow claiming chairs early, and if they do the pool/beach staff takes down the room number and gives up the chairs if you're not back in an hour. It would have been nice for a policy like that to be in place to make it easier to get chairs. We took the boat tour which was amazing. We saw a crocodile, tons of turtles and birds, and some iguanas. My husband had a massage at the spa and said it was phenomenal. The kids were having too much fun at the pool and the beach to participate in any other activities or utilize anything else such as the kid's club! Lastly, just a word of advice for anybody coming to stay here...bring EVERYTHING you might potentially need or else you might be spending a ton of money on things. We ran out of aloe vera by day 3 and the hotel was out of it at their shop. We had to pay 38 dollars (I think) to have somebody get it for us in Playa del Carmen, and then 36 for Benadryl. Painful knowing I had a Costco size waiting for us at home! We have stayed at multiple resorts with the kids and they all said this was their favorite vacation so far! We can't wait to go back! While the resort is extremely kid friendly, I would love to experience it kid free as well!
