The cheeseburger recipe—the ultimate classic

The cheeseburger recipe comes from the U.S., of course, where a manufacturing patent was even filed in 1935 by one Louis Ballast! But that should not stop you from inventing your own homemade version. Short of inspiration? Here are some ideas to get you going.
This is when adding cheese makes all the difference… a slice of cheddar and suddenly your simple burger is imbued with a rich texture enhancing the aromas of the  ground beef!
How to make a cheeseburger at home?

Recipe for 4 persons
  • 400 g ground beef
  • 8 slices of cheddar
  • 1 red onion
  • 2 very ripe tomatoes
  • Some leaves of iceberg lettuce
  • Some Russian gherkins
  • 600 g of Bintje potatoes
  • Ketchup, sweet mustard
Preheat oven to gas mark 7 (220°C). Wash the potatoes well, leave the skins on and cut into large chunks.

In a salad bowl, mix with a spoonful of nut oil, a pinch of sea salt and a few twists from the pepper mill. Arrange the fries on a lightly oiled oven dish and roast for 30 min.

Meanwhile, slice the vegetables very thinly. Make 4 patties the same size as the bread buns, season with salt and pepper. Cook them in a frying pan with a drop of oil, 3 minutes each side at medium heat.
When everything is nearly cooked, toast the buns under the grill or in a toaster.

At the last minute, add 2 cheddar slices to each burger, and cover with a lid for a few seconds so that the cheese is properly melted.

Arrange in the following order: bread, lettuce, burger with melted cheddar, red onion, tomato, gherkins, some squirts of ketchup and sweet mustard, bread.
Serve immediately with your home-made, oven-cooked fries...  and enjoy!
